I’m a Hamiltonian who’s passionate about my city and journalism. I cover my city 24/7 because I love both.
I’ve been a professional journalist for five years starting my career at Maclean’s. I’ve worked for The Globe and Mail and numerous other newspapers. For the past two years, I’ve been independently covering Hamilton, often being the only reporter covering local stories. Many of you know me better as @JoeyColeman.
My typical day begins at 6 a.m. when I wake up and finalize the daily news roundup I publish every day. At 9 a.m., I arrive at City Hall to cover meetings. I’m often the only observer of city sub-committees and committees. I usually cover two or three meetings each day.In the evening, I attend and cover community events, the police services board, and the public school board. If news breaks in the middle of the night, my computer awakes me and I go to the news to report.
No matter when news happens, I’m there informing you.
Now, I’m asking for your support.
I’ve launched an crowd-funding campaign to raise funds because Hamilton needs more local news coverage and we can be the centre of innovation in the new wave of citizen journalism.
It will only take $10,000 to get the ball rolling and I’m asking you to visit the Indiegogo campaign page to learn more and make a contribution.
Contributions at the $8, $16 and $32 dollar level are critical to the success of the campaign. They show widespread support for independent, local, non-profit journalism.
Every contribution helps no matter the amount. It shows the community is behind my work and wishes to see it improve.
