A month ago, Metro news announced plans to expand in four cities, including Hamilton, with digital-only editions. The launch date in their news release: April 2nd.
On Friday, as part of a redesign of all Metro pages, the Hamilton Metro News page went live: http://metronews.ca/hamilton/ with the RSS feed at: http://metronews.ca/hamilton/feed/
The page also includes links to Metro Hamilton’s social media pages on Twitter and Facebook:
The @hamiltonmetro twitter account currently displays an egg and as yet to Tweet. A call to the Twitter API reveals the account was created February 6.
Metro Hamilton’s Facebook page launched March 23, 2012 and currently sports a cover photo.
If launched tomorrow, Metro Hamilton will get a jump on CBC Hamilton which will be its main competition. CBC Hamilton is yet to announce their launch date.
On Twitter, @hamiltonmetro will face competition from CBC Hamilton’s @HamOntAlerts for the crown of top new local news source.
More news competition can only be good for Hamilton.
