Hamilton Police Investigating Ward 9 Campaign Sign Thefts and Vandalism

Sadly, it happens every election – theft and vandalism of campaign signs.

In Ward 9, all candidates have suffered from particularly bad incidents of vandalism. One of the worst being someone putting sugar in the gas tank of candidate Lee Austen.

During the first week of signs being allowed, Marie Robbins was one of the first to see signs vandalized. Since this time, all campaigns have complained about vandalism and missing signs.

At least one incident from Tuesday morning will hopefully lead to arrests as the candidate target was able to provide detailed information to Hamilton Police.

Cam Galindo states:

At 4:00 am, a family friend encountered a white four door sedan with three males who were taking down one of my big signs at Lake Ave & Queenston. An altercation occurred, and police were dispatched. Close to a thousand dollars worth in signage was stolen from private property (people’s front lawns). A vehicle description, license plate number, suspect descriptions, and video surveillance has been forwarded to police.

Hamilton Police media officer Cst. Debbie McGreal-Dinning confirms Hamilton Police are investigating.

Who is Behind Vandalism?

Daily, I’m receiving emails from candidates accusing other candidates of being behind the vandalism – the problem is the lack of proof. Hopefully this case will result in arrests and some answers to that question.
