Fire Department makes second rescue of week in Queen Street Apartment Fire

Hamilton’s Fire Department successfully rescued a 60-year-old man from his burning apartment just after 2:30 p.m. this afternoon – their second rescue of a person from a fire this week.

Fire Department Spokesperson Claudio Mostacci says crews received the call at approximately 2:36 p.m. and arrived at the Queen Elizabeth Towers (44 Queen Street North) to find a 18th-storey apartment unit with a working fire.

1399411_10152103029326111_1645564362_oCrews quickly entered the unit to conduct search and rescue operations. A man was located in his apartment, rescued, and “immediately placed in the care of Paramedics and transported directly to Hamilton General Hospital.”

He is being treated for smoke inhalation and burns. He is expected to recover.

Damage is estimated at $20,000 and the cause remains under investigation.
