A Memory of Yonge and Sheppard

The one and only Marc Weisblott of @1236 is tweeting away from North York today.

Circa 2001 to 2004, I frequented North York during my nights off. It was my go-to. A GO bus ride and then into the TTC subway for the ride up. I loved The Grande theatre at Yonge and Sheppard; probably because it wasn't crushingly busy.

My friend and I would regularly go to the movies there, and she to the Winners for seemingly hours prior to the show. I liked the choice of one of two Cinnabon locations to get my sugar fix.

The final trip came in April 2004, I was a few days from departing to Manitoba. We went to the movies with another friend; I wanted to see some action movie I can't remember - they wanted to see Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind.

Normally, my friend and I would go to separate movies. This time, she decided all three of us had to see the same flick - you know with me going away and all.

So, I lost, and it was Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind.

I loved the movie, it remains one of my favourites to this day. I loved the reward of the story arc only being clear at the very end, and the surprise of the arc.

As for the girls, they didn't like the movie. The ride back to Hamilton involved a long argument about the choice of movie being my fault.

I do miss those arguments.
