University of Manitoba and Aramark ….. not in U of M’s best interests!
Not only do they take lots of money off-campus every year, most of it from ripping students off, they create bad publicity for the University. The latest example on the blogosphere is a lady named Caleigh M from Saskatchewan, Canada who wrote about how bad the Aramark food was. Nice publicity for conferences: Food Sucks. This hurts U of M’s finances has conferences come once, eat the food and never return. I am currently conferencing at the University of Western Ontario and the food is great. I am very impressed and thinking this would be a great deal to have a conference here. Especially with the modern residences at $2542 dollars a night including the Internet that I am using right now.
Anyway, here are the two blog entries that tell everyone how bad Aramark food is:
Damn Aramark! (Post Title)
and
Winnipeg …
At least she liked the residence…. just not the Aramark food…. and who could blame her!
London Ontario
I am in London Ontario for the weekend as part of my new job working for the Ontario Sailing Association. Should be a very interesting day tomorrow as I will be going out with the High-Performance Sail Team tomorrow and will be on a sailboat for the first time in my life. Should be fun. Day starts in less than eight hours so I better go to sleep.
HSR Service to McMaster
Tonight, the MSU President and myself will be taking the 2050 5C Bus to Ancaster and then riding it back to McMaster when it becomes a 5A. I am going to show the MSU President the current problem that this bus faces at 2142 when it gets to the campus. Currently, Students are paying thru our U-Pass fee for an HSR extra bus to run to pick up students getting out of night class. The problem is that this buses intentionally runs 5 minutes behind the 5A creating a situation where the 5A is over capacity and the extra is empty. Furthermore, the 5A ends up running 4 minutes late and arrives downtown at 2201 meaning that all connections downtown have left and students are forced to wait 29 minutes for the next bus (all buses in Hamilton are 30 minute service in the evening). This is not acceptable. The HSR bureaucracy has been made aware of and even shown the problem but as per the norm for the HSR bureaucracy they have done nothing. Hopefully more pressure will assist them in discovering common sense.
Word Processing at a Library?
I am here at the McMaster University Library and there are no computers with word processing. I am annoyed to say the least. U of M had many computers in the Library that had word processing. Not only that, right now (Sunday 1:30pm) U of M has six computer rooms open with word processing:
St. John’s College (24hrs but building doors are locked 11pm-7am)
St. Paul’s College (8am-10pm)
University College (24hrs except Fri and Sat night)
8 Dafoe (8am-11pm)
Mackray Hall (8am-11pm) (UNIX lab is 24/7)
Engineering (which is 24/7 expect during Christmas Shutdown)
McMaster University has only 4 computer labs all of which are only open Mon-Fri 8:30am-4:30pm and no word processing in the library.
Frustration has set in!
My other rant is the Ontario powergrid. I have now experienced 11 power outages since I came back 6 weeks ago. The first one being when I landed (the power went out when I was at the luggage area) and the most recent have been 6 this week!
GRRRRR!
Blogosphere entries on “Grads ahead of their time”
The U of M date mistake did make some waves (all be it only two that have come to my attention, I do not have time to do my search script to see what else is out there)

Server Updates
Some of my visitors my be visiting because of a new reserve DNS name on their server logs. Yes, that is right, you are being pinged by my server. I am pinging your server to get your RSS, XML and RTF feeds.
Tonight, I found out that the Arrogant Worms were in Hamilton on Friday and I missed the show. The reason I did not know was that I was not monitoring their blog like I used to do. While, I decided this needed to be corrected immediately!
So I have installed Feed on Feeds to get RSS feeds for me. I have been added blogs that I monitor to my server most of the evening and will continue to add more as I read them. Eventually, (when I do my launch of my new site build) I will make a page with a listing of all the feeds I read.
U of M grad ahead of their time.
While, I looked at my webstats tonight and noticed a jump in visits from the University of Manitoba. So I figured I find out what is up?
Turns out that the U of M made a typographical mistake on the degrees they conferred this year. Not a big deal, heck I have made worse mistakes in my life and this stuff happens.
The U of M has handled the PR on this very well.
You can read the Reuters (United Kingdom) wire on it here:

In other U of M news:
The Ad campaign is sparking mentions on the blogosphere:

This blogger says that the ad is in the Walrus…. does anyone who is 16-21 read that mag?
